KIE Scientist Partnerships

KIE Scientists are representatives of universities or research centers who wish to collaborate with us to identify Internet materials for KIE projects. This may be someone who is part of a project which already targets pre-college science instruction. A modest time commitment is involved. These people participate initially by identifying pertinent scientific evidence from their research center that is available on the Internet. For example, an observatory might contribute links to a set of images of a galaxy, with annotations. In addition, they collaborate with KIE staff to adapt such materials to make them appropriate for pre-college students. Pilot materials will be tested at a school site.

In summary, KIE Scientists . . .
  • Post web evidence for precollege science teachers
  • Suggest debates, critiques, or design projects for precollege students
  • Mentor students using their personal homepages

If you'd like to become a KIE science partner:

  • Create or identify pages at your web site that teachers or students could use as scientific evidence. (You may first want to read more about KIE Evidence.)
    1. Make your evidence concise. Pages accessed through a single link should not exceed a standard screen. Add links to your pages if they are longer.
    2. Make sure your lab and affiliation are identified on the pages you select
    3. Let us know where the most generally understandable material is at the site
    4. Identify someone at your location who would be willing to answer questions from students and teachers (DESIREABLE)
    5. Post answers to frequently asked questions about your work periodically (DESIREABLE)
  • Submit suggestions for activities using evidence from your site. See our current KIE projects for ideas.

  • Submit your homepage to our "science mentors" page. Ideally, your homepage should...
    1. Give a brief, non-technical summary of your research interests
    2. Point to course homepages for classes you teach (if available)
    3. Point to your research papers
    4. Offer insights into your views of science or interests in related issues
    5. Tell of your activities with K-12 education.
