Downloading KIE Software

PLEASE NOTE: In the coming months, the KIE project will be succeeded by a similar project, the Web-based Integrated Science Environment (WISE) Project. The goals of the project are essentially the same, but the software is now completely web-based. Go to the WISE web site for more information. The downloads offered here are Public Domain, UNSUPPORTED software.
The full set of KIE student software, as well as the KIE software for developing projects, is now available for downloading from this web site.

Before you download the software, you'll want to make sure you meet the following technical specifications:

    Computers

Macintosh system with at least a 68020 or PowerPC processor, System 7.0.1 (or later), 8 MB of memory, and a 14" display (or larger).

    Network

Internet connectivity should allow for adequate, simultaneous Web browsing for all of the student computers on the local network. Internet Service Providers should be able to answer questions about particular configurations.

The KIE software can run over a local network (or LAN) using a Mac file server or on individual machines. If run over a network, students can access their work from any of the machines connected to the network.

In order to get the software, simply send us a message describing your interest in KIE, and we will send you a user name and password. At that point you will be able to:

Download the Software

You will receive a file which you can use to install the custom KIE student software and four KIE Projects ("All the News", "Houses in the Desert", "How Far Does Light Go?", and "Light and Color Debate"; see our Curriculum Library for more information on these, including lesson plans.)

We do not have the resources to provide technical support, unless you are a KIE Partner. Please see our Partnerships page for more information on becoming a KIE Partner.
